April 2016, Morristown, NJ – Atlantic Health System, one of the largest health systems in New Jersey, has been named for a second consecutive year as one of “America’s Best Employers 2016” by Forbes Magazine.
The organization leapt up from last year’s ranking of No. 76 to No. 25 this year on the national list of 500 companies, which span 25 different industries and include employers such as Google, Facebook, Apple and Starbucks. The parent organization of Morristown, Overlook, Newton, Chilton and Hackettstown medical centers and Goryeb Children’s Hospital, Atlantic Health System is the only New Jersey-based health care organization to make the list. The list appears in the April 19 edition, currently available on newsstands.
“Our employees are essential to creating and delivering on the promise of Atlantic Health System’s Trusted Network of Caring™ to our communities,” said Brian Gragnolati, president and CEO of Atlantic Health System. “Rising to the top 25 of the Forbes list so quickly shows that we have created a supportive working environment where our employees are proudly undertaking that mission.”
In his first week after joining the organization in May 2015, Gragnolati embarked on a “Getting to Know You” tour of Atlantic Health System, where he met thousands of employees. Since then, he has held regular meetings with groups of employees to gain their insights and brainstorm ways to lead the organization into the future.
The 500 employers featured here were chosen based on the results of independent survey conducted among 30,000 American employees working at large companies and institutions (headcount of 5,000 or more). Employees were contacted anonymously online without the involvement of their employer. Respondents included in this sample are representative of the U.S. workforce by gender, age, region, education, and ethnicity.
Benefits that have driven high marks in employee satisfaction at Atlantic Health System include employee wellness and well-being initiatives, rewards and recognition, service awards for long-time employees and professional development opportunities.
Also driving much of that positivity is the support offered to employees, including, including on-site or nearby child care for each facility; a bereavement policy; free legal services that include a 30-minute consultation and discounted rates; transitional duty work for employees who sustain a work injury or illness; and crisis and back-up care for employees’ children or adult relatives. When someone at Atlantic Health System is in need, one of the most valuable services offered is the Employee Relief Fund. This program offers financial grants to employees and their families. When a tragedy, such as a home fire or catastrophic event occurs, the organization is there to provide financial and emotional assistance.
Atlantic Health System also offers unique benefits designed for female workers, who make up about 76 percent of the organization’s workforce. These include, unlimited infertility coverage, full maternity benefits, and adoption assistance.
The organization has also developed several ways to allow employees to recognize each other via the company’s intranet, where employees can post “Shout-Outs,” showcase their pride in the organization via On-the-Road photographs, and highlight specific departments in the daily “Good Morning Atlantic Health System” feature.
