$38.5 Million Campaign Announced to Build Healthier Communities

December 3, 2019

As the number one hospital in New Jersey and a top 50 hospital in the nation, Morristown Medical Center is in high demand, with three of the medical center’s Centers of Excellence in particular experiencing significant volume and growth. To meet patient demand and ensure Morristown Medical Center remains a national leader in healthcare, the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center today announced a $38.5 million fundraising campaign -- the Growing Forward Campaign – to expand and enhance the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center, Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute and Goryeb Children’s Hospital.

“Our mission at Morristown Medical Center is to build healthier communities,” Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, president, Morristown Medical Center said. “An integral part of this is partnering with donors who generously support our nonprofit medical center.  Without philanthropy, we would not be able to fully support the health care needs of our community.”

At Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute, two additional floors are being added, which means 72 more private rooms. Additionally, at Goryeb Children’s Hospital, an expanded Joan and Edward Foley Pediatric Intensive Care Unit has increased from nine to 15 beds, and construction on an expanded Valerie Fund Children’s Center, which treats hematology (blood disorder) and pediatric oncology patients, will begin soon.  And the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center is being redesigned to provide a more patient-centric experience by centralizing registration, removing interior walls and creating a flexible, open floor plan that is supported by a dedicated team to provide the full cycle of care.

Thus far, donors have pledged $30.5 million to support the expansion, including $9.5 million from the Gagnon, Goryeb and Simon families. And while the construction is taking place in phases, funding is still needed to support these three centers of excellence.

“Morristown Medical Center is the heart of our community. While I am humbled by the generosity of our donors to this campaign, I acknowledge that we still have more work to do. We need to ensure we are continuing to provide the best patient-centered care while ushering in a new era of medicine. To do that, we need everyone’s support,” Les Quick, Growing Forward Campaign chairman.
