Dr. Gillam presented with Master of the ACC Award at ACC’s 68th Annual Scientific Session; was recognized in 2018 as Gifted Educator of the Year
March 20, 2019, Morristown, NJ – The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has recognized Linda D. Gillam, MD, MPH, FACC, the Dorothy and Lloyd Huck Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at Morristown Medical Center/Atlantic Health System, with the 2019 Master of the ACC Award. This is Dr. Gillam’s second consecutive top ACC honor—last year, she received the ACC Gifted Educator Award.
The Master of the ACC Award recognizes and honors Fellows of the American College of Cardiology who have consistently contributed to the goals and programs of the College and who have provided leadership in important College activities. MACCs have been members of the College for at least 15 years and have served with distinction and provided leadership on various College programs and committees.
“Dr. Gillam’s dedication to improving cardiovascular health and enhancing patient care is a testament to her expertise and professionalism,” said ACC President C. Michael Valentine, MD, FACC. “It is a privilege to be able to honor Dr. Gillam with the Master of the ACC Award and celebrate her tremendous contributions to the cardiovascular field.”

The ACC’s Distinguished Awards recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of cardiovascular medicine. Recipients are nominated by their peers and then selected by the American College of Cardiology Awards Committee. Dr. Gillam was recognized for her achievements at the ACC Convocation, Inauguration and Awards Ceremony on March 18 during the ACC’s 68th Annual Scientific Session in New Orleans.
The Gifted Educator Award, which Dr. Gillam received last year, is presented to a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology who has demonstrated innovative, outstanding teaching characteristics and compassionate qualities and because of these attributes has made major contributions to the field of cardiovascular medicine at the local and/or regional level.
Dr. Gillam is Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line for Atlantic Health System and Professor of Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Under Dr. Gillam’s leadership, Atlantic Health System and Morristown Medical Center have become nationally recognized as leaders in the cardiology space, attracting best-in-class talent, state-of-the-art technology and clinical trials.
She previously served as Medical Director of the Cardiac Valve Program and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University. She is an expert in echocardiography, valvular heart disease and heart disease in women. She has lectured nationally and internationally on these and related topics.
Dr. Gillam is Past President of the American Society of Echocardiography and a former member of both the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors of the American College of Cardiology. She currently chairs the College Partners in Quality Committee. She also chairs the Women in Cardiology Committee of the American Heart Association and serves on the leadership committee of the AHA Council on Clinical Cardiology. She is Immediate Past President of the National Board of Echocardiography. She is senior guest editor for Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging and a member of the editorial boards of Circulation and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
She has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications and 20 book chapters and is co-editor (with Catherine Otto, MD) of Advanced Echocardiographic Techniques and (with Drs. Scott Solomon and Tina Wu) of Essential Echocardiography: A Companion to Braunwald’s Heart Disease, two leading textbooks on echocardiography. She is a graduate of McGill University and Queen’s University, Canada, and Columbia University, NY. She completed her cardiology fellowship training at the University of Toronto and Massachusetts General Hospital.
