Hospital Receives Top Honors from Healthgrades and The Leapfrog Group
Newton, NJ – Atlantic Health System’s Newton Medical Center today announced that it has been nationally recognized for patient safety by Healthgrades as a recipient of the 2019 Patient Safety Excellence AwardTM for the second year in a row, and The Leapfrog Group, earning the highest possible safety rating of ‘A’ in its Spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grades.
The Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence AwardTM places Newton Medical Center among the top 5% of all short-term acute care hospitals reporting patient safety data as evaluated by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals. During the study period (2015 to 2017), Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient hospitals demonstrated excellent performance in safety provided for patients in the Medicare population, as measured by objective outcomes (risk-adjusted patient safety indicator rates) for 14 patient safety indicators defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
“We are honored to receive this recognition by Healthgrades for the second year in a row and attain this prestigious grade from The Leapfrog Group for the sixth time,” said Joe DiPaolo, president of Newton Medical Center. “These achievements are a direct result of the unwavering commitment from the entire team at Newton Medical Center, whose seamless collaboration and expertise translate to patients receiving the highest level of care."
Newton Medical Center has made significant strides to achieve the highest safety standards in patient safety. In early 2018, Newton began its journey to be a High Reliability Organization (HRO) and to date, all employees and medical staff have taken the required four-hour training program to further enhance the focus on patient care.
Newton Medical Center’s sister hospital, Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ, also received the Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award.
