Morristown, NJ – Four Atlantic Health System hospitals were recently recognized for their efforts to register organ donors through the Hospital Organ Donation Campaign. Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center and Chilton Medical Center all were honored with platinum ratings, the highest rating. Newton Medical Center received a gold rating.
“Atlantic Health System is committed to honoring patients’ last wishes, and connecting their families and loved ones with the proper resources – like our partner the NJ Sharing Network – to bring them to fruition,” said Jan Schwarz-Miller, MD, Chief Medical and Academic Officer and Senior Vice President, Atlantic Health System. “We continue to focus on helping our communities outside of the walls of the hospital by helping those in need receive the organs and tissues they need is part of that mission.”
Since January 2019:
- Two organ donors from Morristown Medical Center donated 10 organs, and 13 tissue donors donated 480 “gifts,” which included bone, skin, valve, veins, or cornea
- Two organ donors from Overlook Medical Center donated 4 organs, and 14 tissue donors donated 658 “gifts,” which included bone, skin, or cornea

The Hospital Organ Donation Campaign is organized and sponsored by the Health Resources and Service Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Healthcare organizations are challenged with the task of educating the community about the significant need for organ, eye and tissue donors in the United States. This campaign encourages hospitals and health care providers to recruit new donors.
Currently, there are more than 4,000 New Jersey residents awaiting an organ or tissue transplant. Register to be an organ donor >
