MORRISTOWN, NJ – OCTOBER 4, 2021 – Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center announced it has been recently named a recipient of both the Healthgrades 2021 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ and the Healthgrades 2021 Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award™ -- one of only two hospitals in New Jersey to achieve this honor.
This distinction also places Morristown Medical Center in the top 10% of all hospitals evaluated and recognizes the exceptional care provided to mothers during and after labor and delivery and for providing outstanding quality outcomes in gynecologic surgery, according to Healthgrades.
“We are honored to receive this recognition as it is a testament to our ongoing focus on delivering high-quality care for our moms and their babies,” said Diana Contreras, MD, Medical Director of Women’s Health, Atlantic Health System. “This achievement would not be possible without the tireless efforts and consistent collaboration of our physicians and team members whose top priority is to provide a safe, supportive and family-oriented environment.”
The Deskovick Maternity Center at Morristown Medical Center is a state-of-the-art labor and delivery facility which delivers over 5000 babies per year. It is also designated as a regional perinatal center and is a Levell III NICU.
Atlantic Health System’s board-certified gynecology specialists, surgeons and other medical experts provide an array of nationally recognized care to women. Our surgeons specialize in and treat a variety of gynecological conditions using state-of-the-art procedures, like minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) and robotic gynecologic surgery.
“Now more than ever, there is a heightened awareness around the importance of quality healthcare, especially for women, expectant mothers, and their families,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We’re pleased to recognize the recipients of the 2021 Labor and Delivery and Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Awards for providing superior care for women as well as their ongoing commitment to providing top quality care for women.”
Labor & Delivery
To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes data for hospitals across 16 states that provide all-payer state data for years 2017 through 2019. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes:
- From 2017 through 2019, if all hospitals included in the analysis performed similarly to those that received the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, 138,318 patients with complications could potentially have been avoided*.
- From 2017 through 2019, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 41.7% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award*.
