Richard Oths (1933-2022)

August 12, 2022

Morristown, NJ, August 12, 2022 - As the first CEO of Atlantic Health System (1996-1999), Richard Oths left an inspiring imprint on our organization and on health care across New Jersey. His commitment and vision to create a cohesive system of care was a landmark advancement in New Jersey and one that endures today.

Dick served as president of Morristown Medical Center from 1988-1996 and assumed the role of CEO in 1996, when Atlantic Health System was formed through the joining of Morristown, Overlook and Mountainside Hospitals. The newly formed system was then the largest in the state and set the standard for high-quality, well-coordinated care delivered by the Atlantic Health System team to this day.

Retiring in 1999, Oths remained an active alumnus of the Atlantic Health community. Dick passed peacefully on August 12, 2022 at the age of 89, having devoted his life to improving the health and well-being of his friends and neighbors across our community. We will be forever grateful for his leadership and legacy.

A wake will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, August 19 at Bailey Funeral Home in Mendham, NJ. On Saturday, August 20, at 10:30am, a funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mendham, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center and Cardinal Hayes High School.
