Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Mike Walter was appointed as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer at Atlantic Health System in September, 2022. Mike is a senior finance, accounting and operating executive with over 25 years of progressive, in-depth insurance and financial services experience, across multiple finance functions in both public and private companies of varying size. Mike oversees the fiscal services, revenue cycle and materials management of the organization and works collaboratively with hospital Presidents and the Executive leadership team to drive operational and financial system improvement.
Prior to joining Atlantic Health System, Mike was employed at CareFirst in Baltimore, Maryland where he served most recently as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer responsible for all aspects of finance functions related to Medicare, Medicaid and Federal Employee Programs. Mike was hired into this created role to manage existing government business while launching into Medicaid and Medicare markets and played an integral role as finance lead for Medicaid plan acquisitions.
Before his role at CareFirst, Mike had longstanding careers at MedStar Health Plans, Highmark and Cigna. His experience included roles within financial reporting, investor relations, information technology, and line of business finance and operations. While in those roles Mike directed all enterprise financial planning and analysis and accounting and reporting functions for one of the country’s three largest Blues plans – $15 billion in annual revenues and 5 million members, including Commercial, Medicare, Dental, and Vision, as well as Medicaid and other joint ventures.
Mike began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers serving financial services clients within the greater Washington, DC and Philadelphia markets.
Mike is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and has served as Treasurer and Vice President on several Boards. A few of those being MedStar Family Choice, CareFirst Community Health of Maryland and District of Columbia, and CareFirst Advantage.
