The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology Program provides optimal diagnostic and therapeutic care to children and adolescents with pediatric rheumatic diseases, such as:
- Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis)
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (mixed connective tissue disease)
- Fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndromes
- Acute rheumatic fever
- Juvenile dermatomyositis
- Lyme arthritis
- Periodic fever syndromes
- Raynaud's phenomenon
- Uveitis
- Vasculitis
To diagnose these conditions, we use immunological and genetic laboratory tests, as well as advanced radiological imaging reviewed by a pediatric or musculoskeletal radiologist. Physician services are provided through Atlantic Medical Group and are on staff at Goryeb Children’s Hospital.
Treatment for pediatric rheumatic diseases may include anti-inflammatory medications. We give full consideration to each child’s psychological and social health, and educate both patient and parent on medication administration, sun protection and other tips to maintain quality of life.
Patients may also be referred to Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute, Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services Department for physical and occupational therapy or to Atlantic Integrative Medicine for relaxation techniques, guided imagery, therapeutic touch, acupressure and reflexology.
