At Atlantic Health System there is a fixed length of stay for every type of surgery. However, this may vary based on the progress of your recovery. Your doctor will determine when it is safe for you to be discharged home.
- Our discharge time is 11:00am.
- Please ensure you have a responsible driver ready to bring you home on the morning of discharge.
- After being discharged from the hospital, you should arrange for someone to stay with you and provide assistance for at least 24 hours.
Questions to Ask About Surgery Discharge
Before going home from surgery at Atlantic Health System location, you will be given discharge instructions, which we recommend a family member or friend to listen to with you. Be sure you understand this document and that all of your questions are answered. Depending on the type of surgery you had, you may want to ask about:
- Medicines (how much and how often to take them)
- Incision and dressing care
- Physical activity
- Bathing and showering
- Pain control
- Sign of infection
- Diet
- Driving
- Resuming of sexual relations
- Returning to work
- Follow-up visits
