Becoming an ostomy patient can feel overwhelming. That is why Atlantic Health System ostomy care clinics are staffed by wound and ostomy care nurses who specialize in working with patients before and after ostomy surgery.
We provide compassionate, evidence-based care combined with personalized education to patients who have ostomies (also called stomas). The wound, ostomy and continence (WOC) nurse serves as consultant, educator, and patient advocate. The WOC nurse works together with the patient's treatment team to prevent complications or to address them early.
Our primary goal is to help prepare patients to adapt to life after ostomy surgery and to ensure that the stoma produces positive outcomes and improved quality of life for our patients.
