Watch Open-Heart Surgery in Real Time
Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown Medical Center collaborates with Liberty Science Center to produce “Live From the Cardiac Classroom,” an educational program that allows middle and high school students to watch open-heart bypass surgery as it happens in real time. Made possible with funding from Johnson & Johnson and Verizon, “Live From the Cardiac Classroom” enables students in a classroom at Liberty Science Center to ask our surgical team questions while they view the team performing an operation via video teleconferencing technology.
This innovative program has been lauded for its efforts to introduce young people to medical careers and to communicate the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. “Live From the Cardiac Classroom” has received several awards, including the Worldfest Film Festival Award, American Association of Museums’ Muse Award, and the U.S. International Film and Video Festival certificate for creative excellence.
