Health information at your fingertips

Atlantic Health System, an early leader in the field of consumer health education, has managed health information libraries since the early 1970s.  Our libraries house one of the largest collections of consumer health information in New Jersey. Overlook Medical Center’s library contains approximately 3,000 books, plus hundreds of newsletters, magazines, videos and free pamphlets created specifically for the general public.

Morristown Medical Center's Shinn-Lathrope Library features another 2,000 health and wellness books, plus newsletters and magazines, all written in easy-to-understand, non-technical language.

Staffed by professional medical librarians and skilled assistants, Atlantic Health System Libraries provide a full-range of services, including reference, circulation, interlibrary loans and computer database searches. Photocopy machines, VCRs, DVD players and computers are available in each library. Access to the Internet and various medical/health databases, as well as software for word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, is also available.

Atlantic Health System Libraries are closed to the public on weekends and major holidays. Hospital staff has 24-hour library access. At Morristown Medical and Overlook Medical, any employee or physician can gain entry to the library using their hospital ID card.
