Morristown Medical Center Again Top Ranked in New Jersey
MARCH 6, 2020 – MORRISTOWN and SUMMIT, NJ – Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center have been named among the World’s Best Hospitals by Newsweek for the second year of the publication’s ranking.
The World’s Best Hospitals 2020 ranking is based on responses to an online survey sent to nearly 70,000 doctors, hospital administrators and health care professionals in 21 countries. Every hospital in each country was rated by a score, which is based on recommendations from medical experts, available hospital performance data and existing patient satisfaction, such as results from patient surveys.
Atlantic Health System medical centers join hospitals including The Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and Massachusetts General on this prestigious. A total of 1,500 hospitals globally made the World’s Best List. In the ranking of 281 hospitals in the United States, Morristown was ranked 38 and Overlook was ranked 170. Morristown was ranked highest of the only five hospitals in New Jersey named to the list.

Newsweek rated the best hospitals in 21 countries: USA, Canada, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Israel, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, India, Thailand, Australia and Brazil. The countries were mainly selected based on standard of living and life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals and data availability.
The data was collected by Newsweek and Statista, in collaboration with GeoBlue, during an initial survey period from September to November 2019. The survey was also promoted on newsweek.com.
