Atlantic Health System Cancer Care provides inpatient treatment programs in a soothing, comfortable environment for the treatment and management of cancer patients. Patients who stay in these units include those who are receiving chemotherapy, blood transfusions, antibiotic therapy, and nutritional support, as well as pain and symptom management, postoperative care and palliative care.

Our inpatient treatment health care team is specially trained and certified to meet the complex physical and psychosocial needs of cancer patients and their families and friends. Our nurses employ a holistic approach to patient care, based on the latest clinical research and on well-founded methodologies, and our clinical nurse specialist keeps the staff up-to-date on new therapies, monitoring outcomes and providing resources. In addition, pharmacists are available for questions, guidance and resources to help you understand your cancer treatment.

The adult inpatient oncology units’ oncology social workers provide psychosocial support, financial guidance and short- or long- term placement, when needed, and our case managers coordinate discharge needs and work closely with the whole team, participating in planning and identifying resources. Certified nutritionists, dieticians, and physical and occupational therapists are also available to assist with medical clinical interventions.

While treating cancer, we recognize the importance of spiritual needs, and we offer complementary therapies such as music therapy, therapeutic touch, and a dedicated “family room” equipped with television, DVDs, CDs, videos and refreshments. Our patient liaisons make daily visits to each cancer patient to ensure we are meeting everyone’s needs.

Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Overlook Medical offers patients high-dose Proleukin for the inpatient treatment of metastatic renal cancer and metastatic melanoma. Studies have demonstrated that PROLEUKIN IL-2 offers the possibility of a complete and long-lasting remission in these diseases. This type of cancer treatment is a recombinant human interleukin-2 (rhIL-2) immunotherapy that uses the body's natural immune system to fight cancer.
