Many sleep disorders in children are behavioral in nature, so proper diagnosis is important in ruling out more serious causes and determining the right course of treatment. As part of Atlantic Health System Children's Health, physician services are provided through Atlantic Medical Group and are on staff at Goryeb Children's Hospital.
Tests available at the Pediatric Sleep Disorder Center include:
- Physical examination
- Detailed review of medication use and family history
- Encephalography (EEG)
- Polysomnography (PSG) or sleep study
In some cases, we may ask parents to keep a detailed history of their child’s sleep patterns in a diary, journal or medical device for one to two weeks to aid in the diagnosis.
Pediatric Sleep Studies
An overnight sleep study is one of the most valuable tests used by our center. It is a painless and non-invasive recording of the quantity and quality of a child’s sleep. The data obtained from these studies helps us diagnose and treat sleep-related breathing disorders and movement disorders. At the Pediatric Sleep Disorder Center, we offer polysomnography for children from birth age through 18.
