Controlling Cholesterol

I was fighting high cholesterol for so many years – with proper diet and exercise, the best I could get my LDL cholesterol level to was 200. My doctor confirmed I had familial hypercholesterolemia and at age 28, we found four to five blockages at 90 percent. I never had symptoms – no irregular heartbeat, no palpitations, I always felt great! But I was a ticking time bomb. After open heart surgery and at age 31, I’m happy to report that I am healthy – and am enjoying my time with my wife and daughter, Lila.”

Clinical Trials

At Atlantic Medical Group, we not only provide excellent medical care, but also remain active in clinical research trials from which our current and future patients may benefit, as well as in the education of medical students and residents. Our participation in clinical trials, including studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, has helped expand treatment options for patients with high triglyceridescholesterol and  lipoprotein(a).

Some of our trials include medical conditions relating to lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and genetics (familial hypercholesterolemia, otherwise known as FH).

At age 41, I suffered a heart attack – I didn’t even know that I was having one because I thought I had the flu. After many tests we learned that I had 100 percent blockage in my right artery -- as well as familial hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia. Happy to report that I am doing so well now thanks to my cardiologists who go above and beyond – in clinical studies, teaching me about my condition, and empowering me with so many resources. I am forever grateful for their care.”
