A short-term ventricular assist device (VAD) is designed for patients who are acutely and critically ill. It enables them to survive until a decision can be made if their heart will recover or if a long-term VAD and/or a heart transplant is needed.
The VAD Program at Heart Success, part of Atlantic Health System Heart Care, can implant short-term VADs either as part of cardiac surgery or during cardiac catheterization procedures.
We use the most advanced technology available, such as the Abiomed® Impella and the Saint Jude Medical Centrimag®, and will evaluate each patient’s needs to determine which treatment is most appropriate.
