Robotic surgery combines the precision of open surgery with the advantages of laparoscopic surgery to offer a minimally-invasive treatment that often results in better outcomes. At Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center and Chilton Medical Center, we have performed more than 7,700 procedures to date using the da Vinci® Surgical System. Our areas of expertise include bariatric surgery, general surgery, head and neck surgery, pediatric urologic surgery, transoral surgery, gynecologic surgery and gynecologic oncology, and urologic and urogynecologic surgery.
How Robotic Surgery Works
The da Vinci Surgical System allows surgeons to operate via tiny incisions, using instruments that mimic the movement of the wrist. In addition, the system’s advanced, high-definition camera allows surgeons to see vital anatomical structures in 3-D, so delicate nerves, muscles and blood vessels can be carefully spared, when necessary.
Potential Benefits of Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery typically offers numerous advantages over open surgery, including:
- Less scarring, blood loss and pain
- Shorter hospital stay
- Quicker recovery time and return to daily activities
- Decreased risk of infection
A Leader in Robotic Surgical Care
Morristown Medical Center performs some of the highest volumes of robotic surgery for the treatment of cancer and gynecologic and urogynecologic conditions in this region. We were one of the first hospitals on the entire Eastern Seaboard to perform a robotic sacrocolpopexy to correct female pelvic prolapse and are the only hospital in NJ to treat endometrial cancer patients with an add-on to the da Vinci Surgical System called Firefly™ Fluorescence Imaging.
Robot-Assisted Surgery
In addition to the da Vinci Surgical System, Overlook Medical Center offers Mako™ robot-arm assisted partial knee replacement and ViKY® video endoscopy.
Ask your doctor if you might be a candidate for robotic surgery.
