NanoKnife
NanoKnife® System is a medical procedure that surgeons at Atlantic Surgical Oncology use. It incorporates irreversible electrocorporation (IRE) to destroy cancer cells. It is performed at Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Morristown Medical Center and is New Jersey’s only comprehensive program.
Designed to target hard-to-reach tumors, Nanoknife is provided through Morristown Medical Center. Learn more about how NanoKnife helps attack tumors that would have otherwise been considered inoperable.
The NanoKnife procedure uses bursts of micro-second pulsed electrical current to burst holes in the cell membranes. The disruption of the cell membranes causes loss of cell homeostasis and thus leads to the destruction of the cancer cells. It has been clinically shown to improve the quality of life and extend the survival of patients with:
- Unresectable pancreatic cancer
- Liver tumors
- Colorectal liver metastases
- Neuroendocrine tumors
