Nursing Philosophy

At Chilton Medical Center, we believe that we have a responsibility to help patients meet all of their needs – whether they be physical, psychosocial, spiritual or economic in nature. To accomplish this, we follow Jean Watson’s Theory of Nursing, which emphasizes holistic care as a crucial component in nursing practice, and we empower our patients to take part in the decision-making process. In addition, our organization encourages nurses to continually grow professionally, aided by an environment that supports critical thinking, innovative ideas, research and collaboration.

Shared Governance

Our framework is based on the belief that nurses are often closest to patients and, therefore, are in the best position to make decisions regarding their care. This concept fosters collaboration among nurses, management and other health care team members as they develop evidence-based nursing practices.

Professional Practice Model

The Safe Passage of Care model symbolizes the structure, process and values of Chilton Medical Center’s nursing practice. It encompasses the fundamentals of Jean Watson’s theory and helps ensure that nursing is consistent regardless of location within the hospital and achieves optimal patient outcomes.
