Faculty of the Family Medicine Residency at Overlook

In addition to the full-time faculty members profiled below, eight community-based family physicians precept part-time, and a pharmacist, psychiatrist and more than a dozen medical specialists regularly contribute to our core curriculum.

 
Susan T. Kaye, MD, FAAFP

Susan T. Kaye, MD, FAAFP
Dr. Kaye is the Chair Emeritus of the Department of Family Medicine at Overlook Medical Center, having stepped down as Chair in June 2023 after 24 years in that role. In addition, she has also held positions as the Chair of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Medical Director of Academic Affairs for Atlantic Health, and DIO of the healthcare system.  She is Clinical Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Currently she is a part-time faculty member, continuing her roles as preceptor in the Family Medicine Center, school physician for an area public school system, engagement in special projects for the Division of Academic Affairs and providing clinical care to her panel of patients. 

Dr. Kaye earned her Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, from Brown University. After completing her medical degree at New York University School of Medicine, she completed her residency in family medicine at Overlook Medical Center, where she was chief resident. Her fellowship in faculty development was completed at the Family Practice Faculty Development Center of Texas.

Dr. Kaye served as director of the Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program from 1990-2003, prior to assuming her role as department chair. Her special clinical interests include global health, pediatrics, adolescent health and women's health, including office-based gynecologic procedures. Additional areas of interest include community engagement and the advocacy of family medicine within the larger health care system.

Dedicated to promoting volunteerism among medical professionals, Dr. Kaye directs the Benjamin H. Josephson, MD Fund, which provides financial support for medical volunteers who care for patients in underserved communities throughout the world. She is a board member of Shoulder to Shoulder, Inc., a nongovernmental international health organization that provides medical, dental, nutritional and educational services with a specific focus on Honduras.

Additionally, Dr Kaye has been actively involved on the Board of the Family Medicine Education Consortium, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting collaboration among family medicine educators and creating links with organizations interested in the growth of family medicine, including residency programs, medical school departments, foundations, state agencies and corporations with a special interest in strengthening primary care.

Dr. Kaye has maintained a family medicine practice in the Overlook Medical Center community for 38 years, and continues to teach both residents and medical students.

Joseph Tribuna, MD, director of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program.

Joseph Tribuna, MD
Dr. Tribuna is director of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program. He is also clinical assistant professor of family and community medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and a member of the Overlook Medical Center Performance Improvement Committee. He is a graduate of St. John's University (Bachelor's of Arts) and SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn (Doctor of Medicine).

Dr. Tribuna completed his residency in family medicine at Overlook Medical Center, where he was chief resident. He is also a graduate of the National Institute for Program Director Development. Dr. Tribuna joined the Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program as clinical faculty and was director of ambulatory services before assuming his current position as director. His special areas of interest include practice management, evidence-based medicine and continuous quality improvement and performance improvement of medical systems. He also conducts procedure workshops with medical students and residents, with extensive use of models.

A firm believer that you must maintain clinical skills to be a good educator, Dr. Tribuna has held a clinical practice at Chatham Family Medicine for the past 30 years. He also does inpatient rounding (and precepting with residents) on FM patients, as well as home visits. He is a Board Member/Trustee of the Summit Area YMCA, and on the Advisory Board of the Berkeley Heights YMCA. He is the School Physician for the Summit Speech School.

Janice Baker, MD, Associate Director of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program

Janice Baker, MD
Dr. Baker is an Associate Director of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program and Assistant Professor of family and Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University and her Medical Degree from Chicago Medical School- University of the Health Sciences. She completed her residency at Overlook Medical Center where she also served as chief resident.

Dr. Baker has maintained a clinical practice at Chatham Family Medicine for more than 30 years.  Having developed a passion for hospice and end-of life care as well as geriatric medicine, she is also a Medical Director for Atlantic Hospice, and was the first physician at Overlook Medical Center to become a diplomate of the American Board of Hospice and palliative Medicine. She developed and mentors Overlook Family Medicine residents in Overlook’s Hospice Home Visiting Program, as program developed to provide home hospice care to a diverse patient population throughout the four counties that Atlantic Hospice serves. Most recently, Dr. Baker has become an active advocate of New Jersey’s new “Medical-Aid-in-Dying” law. She is an active Board Member of New Jersey Death With Dignity, an organization devoted to education and resources for patients and practitioners interested in MAiD. Dr. Baker also has a strong interest in Global Health and has been a part of a weeklong medical mission trip to Guatemala for the past four years, providing care to desperately poor patients in the country.

Elise Butkiewicz, MD

Elise Butkiewicz, MD
Dr. Butkiewicz has spent her entire career in family medicine education, providing care to disparate, primarily underserved communities. She re-joined the Overlook Medical Center community as an associate director of the Family Medicine Residency Program in September 2012, 15 years after completing her residency there.

She received her bachelor of arts degree from Rutgers University with honors in English Literature and Biology, and her medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rutgers) in Newark. Dr. Butkiewicz is clinical assistant professor of family and community medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She is board certified in both Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine.

Following her residency, Dr. Butkiewicz joined the clinical family medicine faculty at Hoboken University Medical Center, with assistant clinical professorships in Family Medicine at UMDNJ and New York Medical College. At Hoboken, Dr. Butkiewicz served as medical director, school physician, team physician, coordinated the Community Oriented Primary Care experience and led the Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Electronic Health Record Physician Advisory Committees during the transition to inpatient EHR.

Dr. Butkiewicz teaches and sees patients in the Summit office. She serves as the medical director at the Overlook Medical Center residency practice, ensuring high-quality clinical care as a Patient Centered Medical Home, participant in the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and as an Office Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) practice. She is a prior grant recipient of the Healthcare Foundation of NJ forming a Diabetes Health Partnership which continues to provide diabetes self-management education and social determinants of health interventions for our most vulnerable diabetes patients in Union and Essex counties. She also serves on the Atlantic Medical Group Quality Improvement Committee, Atlantic Health Substance Use Disorder Learning Collaborative, and Opioid Safety Working Groups and as an Atlantic Health High Reliability Organization Safety Coach and Trainer.

Stuart Green, DMH, LCSW, MA, associate director of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program

Stuart Green, DMH, LCSW, MA
Dr. Green is an associate director of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program, the behavioral sciences director at Overlook Medical Center and clinical assistant professor of family and community medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He obtained his BA from City College of New York, his MSW from Yeshiva University School of Social Work, an MA in psychology from Hunter College, and a doctorate in medical humanities from Drew University.

Dr. Green has helped develop hospital and community programs addressing tobacco use, intimate partner violence, bioethics and palliative care, childhood bullying, and LGBT health care. He is co-chair of the residency's Clinical Competency Committee. He is a member of Overlook Medical Center’s Bioethics Committee and a leader of Atlantic's LGBTQ Business Resource Group. He founded a statewide network of groups addressing childhood bullying, chaired New Jersey's Commission on Bullying in Schools, helped develop and obtain passage of the NJ Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights. He organizes an annual conference on bullying for the NJ State Bar's Institute for Continuing Legal Education and serves as an expert witness in bullying-related lawsuits.

He is founding Board member of the Alliance for Social-Emotional Learning in NJ (SEL4NJ). He was first president of the Board of Directors of Curemenos, a non-profit advocacy organization for underserved women with breast cancer. His grant-funded work includes development of a guide for family caregivers, starting a breast cancer training project led by women with breast cancer (Pathways Women's Cancer Teaching Project), and developing patient-led teaching programs in diabetes, chronic pain, and Tourette Syndrome, the latter in partnership with NJ Center for Tourette Syndrome.

In 2007, he received the American Cancer Society's Jody A. Morrow Humanitarian Award, in 2011 was designated by the National Association of Social Workers as NJ Social Worker of the Year and in 2014 was recognized for his anti-bullying advocacy by a NJ State Senate Resolution. His publications include an edited volume of the writings of Overlook Family Medicine founder Donald F. Kent, MD, PhD; professional articles on childhood bullying and patient-centered medical education, book chapters on team-based diabetes care and teaching communication skills to physicians, and three novels. Before coming to Overlook Medical Center, Dr. Green held a variety of social work and psychologist positions in New York, including as a psychiatric social work supervisor at Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital, and had a private practice in marital and family therapy in New York.

GianAngelo Graci, MD
Dr. Graci is a clinical faculty member with the Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program. He is a Geriatrician and a Family Physician by training. He is also board certified in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He earned his Bachelor's degree at New York University, where he completed his pre-medical studies along with coursework in Italian language, culture, and society. He went on to medical school at St. George’s University, obtaining clinical experience at various hospitals in New York City and Northern New Jersey. He completed residency at Morristown Medical Center, where he developed a passion for teaching medical students and junior residents. He was given the resident teacher award at the completion of his training.

He went on to fellowship training in Geriatrics at Morristown Medical Center. During this fellowship he further developed his interest in caring for the aging population in the hospital, outpatient, and skilled nursing facility settings. His special area of interest is dementia diagnosis and management.

Dr. Graci supervises the residents during inpatient rounds on the inpatient Family Medicine service, covering the general medical floors and newborn nursery. He also oversees the residents’ care of patients at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Berkeley Heights in both the long term and subacute care arenas. He also leads the home visit program, caring for our home-bound patient panel and supervises the residents in the outpatient family medicine office.

Amy Gruber, MD, Associate Director of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program

Amy Gruber, MD
Dr. Gruber is Associate Director of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She obtained her Bachelor's of Science from Brown University and her Doctor of Medicine from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School before doing her residency in family medicine at Overlook Medical Center. She completed the Fellowship in Educational Leadership at University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.

Prior to joining the residency program faculty, she was medical director of Seton Hall University Health Services. Her areas of special interest include women’s health and adolescent and school health. She directs school health services for the school district of Scotch Plains, NJ. She received national recognition from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) when she won a Star Award for her work in directing Overlook Family Medicine's implementation of the “Tar Wars” youth tobacco prevention project. She also coordinates our residents' work with “Medfest” for Special Olympics. Additionally, Dr. Gruber acts as Clerkship Director for the medical students who rotate through our program. For her work with medical students, she is a June 2022 recipient of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education.

Matthew Resciniti, DO

Matthew Resciniti, DO
Dr. Resciniti is director of osteopathic training at Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He obtained his Bachelors of Science from Rowan University and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a graduate of Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program and Atlantic Health Osteopathic Sports Medicine Fellowship, and is dually board-certified in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine.

He spent three years in private practice at Creekside Osteopathic Family Medicine in California, where he was active in sports medicine, covering football games and treating student athletes, in addition to providing the full scope of family medicine and osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT). He also worked at Med 7 Urgent Care.

Dr. Resciniti is passionate about both OMT and sports medicine and plans to utilize his clinical skills and experience to educate residents and provide excellent, comprehensive patient care.

Zeynep Uzumcu, MD

Zeynep Uzumcu, MD
Dr. Uzumcu joined the Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program in July 2024. She earned her BA in English and Chemistry from Rutgers University, and received her medical degree at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She completed residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She then pursued an Advanced Obstetrics fellowship at Swedish First Hill Medical Center, in Seattle, Washington. Prior to beginning her position at Overlook Family Medicine, she was Assistant Professor at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, where she was jointly appointed in the departments of OBGYN and Family Medicine.

Dr. Uzumcu practices full scope primary care, with an emphasis on care throughout the reproductive spectrum. She teaches residents in a variety of settings, including the Summit family medicine office, the Health Start OB clinic providing prenatal care and early pregnancy management, and on L&D during intrapartum and postpartum care.
