Some residents from the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Morristown Medical Center enjoy the academic environment of a residency program and wish to pursue careers in academic medicine as teacher-clinicians. General internal medicine fellowships train internists to serve as future faculty or for leadership positions in government, foundations or the health care industry.
Several of our faculty members are fellowship-trained academic general internists, and past graduates of our residency program have completed general internal medicine fellowships at universities around the country.
Research
Occasionally, a resident wants to pursue a post-graduate research track after completion of a training program. Being a clinical and academic affiliate of Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University, as well as our proximity to New York City, increases the opportunities available to these residents. The plethora of pharmaceutical companies in the area makes the option of research in the pharmaceutical industry another alternative.
Other Careers
Just as there are different people in the world, there are different career paths that residents can follow. Our individualized approach to medical education allows us to help residents find the most appropriate path for his or her future. In addition to the choices above, some of our graduates have sought careers in administration and the military.
