Prostate Cancer Multidisciplinary and Second Opinion Clinic

The Prostate Cancer Multidisciplinary and Second Opinion Clinic at Overlook Medical Center is a convenient and timely way to get answers to questions about a prostate cancer diagnosis or treatment plan from a multidisciplinary medical team.

Decisions around the diagnosis, treatment and management of prostate cancer can be complicated. Meeting with a multidisciplinary care team for an ongoing discussion - or a second opinion - can help patients feel more confident about their care.

All patients seen in the clinic will meet with a urologist, a radiation oncologist, a nurse navigator and, if necessary, a surgical scheduler.

The urologist will discuss all available surgical treatment options including:

  • Robotic radical prostatectomy
  • Salvage cryoablation therapy
  • Bone health, urinary and sexual function
  • Hormone therapy
  • Watchful waiting.

The radiation oncologist will review treatment techniques such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy, volumetric-modulated arc therapy and image-guided radiation therapy as well as discuss all available radiation treatment options including:

  • Conventionally fractionated external beam radiation
  • Hypofractionated external beam radiation
  • Radiosurgery

The nurse navigator will provide educational support, patient information and an after-visit summary.

The surgical scheduler will provide care coordination and arrange follow-up appointments and testing as necessary.

Patients to the clinic can be referred by their primary care physician or by calling directly for self-referral.
