Morristown Medical Center Volunteer Opportunities

2025 Junior Volunteer Summer Program

Lunch with a Doctor

Morristown Medical Center is excited to offer a junior volunteer summer program in 2025. This dynamic program not only gives high school students the opportunity to exemplify kindness and compassion for others but also provides valuable non-clinical experience. Students will support patients, visitors, and team members in a hospital environment, learning and growing with each interaction.

As part of their volunteer assignments, junior volunteers will have the unique opportunity to attend “Lunch with a Doc” and “Lunch with an RN” events. These events provide valuable learning experiences where students gain profound insights into the diverse and crucial roles of patient care.

The junior volunteer team attended “Lunch with a Doc” and “Lunch with an RN” events with Dr. Benjamin van Boxtel, the surgical director at the Atlantic Aortic Center, Dr. Richard A. Stennett, Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at Morristown Medical Center, and the Emergency Department Nursing Leadership Team.

Services Dates

  • The 2025 Junior Volunteer Summer Program at Morristown Medical Center will begin on Monday, June 23, 2025, and end on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Commitment

  • The summer service requirement is two 4-hour shifts per week, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  We ask for a minimum commitment of 50 service hours between June 23 and August 15, 2025.
  • If the student expects to miss more than two weeks or service between June 23 and August 15, 2025, we ask that they refrain from applying to the program.

Application

  • The student must be currently enrolled in high school and at least 15 years old on or before June 1, 2025.
  • The Volunteer Services Department will be accepting applications for the Junior Volunteer Summer Program between February 1 and February 28, 2025. Please apply via the link, Junior Volunteer Summer Program. The application includes an essay.
  • Space is limited. It's crucial that your contact information is accurate, and your application is complete to be considered for the program.
  • Volunteer Services does not select applicants on a “first come, first served basis.”

Teams Meeting

The volunteer leadership team will invite the selected applicants to attend one mandatory Teams meeting in early March. On the one-hour call, the team will review the onboarding requirements and service standards. One parent or guardian must attend the call with the applicant.

Orientation

The new junior volunteer must attend one orientation on Monday, June 23, or Tuesday, June 24. Since this is a significant step in the volunteer's journey, attendance is mandatory. If the student expects to miss the orientation, we ask that they refrain from applying to the program, as it is a crucial part of their preparation.

The deadline to submit an adult application for an adult summer volunteer position is February 28, 2025. Please note “Summer Volunteer” in the field, Top Position or Area for Volunteering.
