The distinguished faculty members of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program at Morristown Medical Center maintain a formidable presence in academics and research. Experts in their fields, each of our highly skilled scientists and practitioners are devoted to training and supporting our fellows to maximize their knowledge and help them achieve their full potential as cardiologists.

Linda D. Gillam, MD, MPH, FACC, FAHA, FASE
Chair, Cardiovascular Medicine
Atlantic Health System

Dr. Gillam is the chair of cardiovascular medicine for Atlantic Health System. She previously served as medical director of the Cardiac Valve Program and professor of clinical medicine at Columbia University. She is an expert in echocardiography, valvular heart disease and heart disease in women. She has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications and 14 book chapters and is co-editor (with Catherine Otto, MD) of Advanced Echocardiographic Techniques. She has lectured nationally and internationally on these and related topics. She is a graduate of McGill University and Queen’s University, Canada, and Columbia University, NY. She completed her cardiology fellowship training at the University of Toronto and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Gillam is past president of the American Society of Echocardiography and a former member of both the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors of the American College of Cardiology. She is a former chair of the Women in Cardiology Committee of the American Heart Association and served on the leadership committee of the AHA Council on Clinical Cardiology. She is a member of the Board of Directors and treasurer of the National Board of Echocardiography. She is an associate editor for Circulation:  Cardiovascular Imaging and a member of the editorial boards of Circulation and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Past awards include the Richard Popp Distinguished Teacher Award of the American Society of Echocardiography, the Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award of the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology, the American College of Cardiology Distinguished Service Award, the McDonald Lectureship Award of the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the American Heart Association Laennec Lectureship.

She is the mother of two children and a recreational rower.

A clinical and research cardiologist with a focus on advanced echocardiography, Dr. Lillian Aldaia serves as an attending physician in Morristown Medical Center’s Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. She is also a member of the Cardiovascular Core Lab and is actively involved in the selection and education of fellows in our program.

Dr. Aldaia was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She later received her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY, where she was inducted as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. This was followed by training in internal medicine at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY and a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the New York University School of Medicine/NYU Langone Medical Center, also in New York, NY, where she served as the Chief Clinic Fellow.

Dr. Aldaia has clinical interests in advanced echocardiography, valvular and structural heart disease, and preventive cardiology, including women’s heart disease. Her research interests include valvular and structural heart disease, as well as multimodality imaging.

Prior to joining Atlantic Health System in 2013, Dr. Aldaia was a clinical instructor in the Division of Cardiology at NYU School of Medicine/NYU Langone. She is board-certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine and echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography.

 

Seth Uretsky, MD, FACC

Dr. Uretsky is the medical director of cardiovascular imaging for Atlantic Health System and the assistant director of the Cardiology Fellowship Training Program.

He obtained his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine and his internal medicine training at NYU/Bellevue's Internal Medicine Program. Dr. Uretsky acquired his training in cardiovascular diseases at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt hospitals, where he concentrated on nuclear cardiology and echocardiography, after which he obtained training in cardiac CT and MRI at Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging in New York City.

Dr. Uretsky joined the faculty at Atlantic Health System in 2013 after serving as the director of Cardiac CT and MRI at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt hospitals for five years. He has pursued a career in the practice of clinical cardiology, clinical research and medical education. Dr. Uretsky’s research interests include the role of cardiac CT in the early diagnosis of atherosclerosis, the role of cardiac MRI in the diagnosis of valvular disease, and the obesity paradox.

Dr. Ricculli is a New Jersey native who grew up in Jersey City.  He earned a BA with a double major in Biology and English at New York University. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1985.  

His professional training was at Morristown Memorial Hospital (now Morristown Medical Center), VA Boston Healthcare System and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. He has completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at those institutions.

Dr. Ricculli holds American Board of Internal Medicine certifications in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases. He also has separate certifications in echocardiography and clinical lipidology.

He has been an invited speaker at regional medical conferences and has been on the speakers’ bureau of several pharmaceutical firms.

He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association, American Society of Echocardiography and National Lipid Society.

Since 1991, Dr. Ricculli has been on the attending physician staff of Morristown Medical Center and, more recently, a faculty member for the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship. He has been an instructor for the medical residency during his time at Morristown Medical Center and is a supervising attending for the Cardiology Continuity Clinic.

He is in private practice with Atlantic Cardiology Group, where he is a partner and founding member.

He resides in Morristown, NJ, with his wife and children.

Dr. Blitz is a consultative and interventional cardiologist in practice with Cardiology Associates of North Jersey since 1997. His areas of expertise include the medical and interventional management of coronary and peripheral vascular disease. He is also involved with the Interventional Valve Program at Morristown Medical Center.

After graduating from Haverford College and NYU School of medicine, he completed an Internal Medicine residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and fellowship training in Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is active on the medical staffs of Morristown Medical Center as well as Chilton Medical Center where he serves as the Chairman of Cardiology and the Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. At Chilton Medical Center, he started the peripheral vascular interventional program and has directed the STEMI program since its initiation in 2005.

Dr. Blitz is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He has served as a past president of the New Jersey Society of Interventional Cardiology, and has participated as the local Principle Investigator in several multicenter trials in clinical and interventional cardiology. He has presented at both national and international Interventional Cardiology conferences. He is published on the topics of valvular heart disease, and interventional therapies for limb ischemia and DVT.

Dr. Boccia-Liang graduated from Cornell University Medical College with honors. Her undergraduate and master's degrees were received from Cornell University and Harvard, respectively. She completed her residency in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in cardiology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell campus) in New York City. In 2011, Dr. Boccia-Liang joined Atlantic Health System as director of the Women's Heart Program.

Dr. Boccia-Liang is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease, the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Her special interests include women's heart health and cardiovascular disease prevention, cardiovascular complications during pregnancy and adult congenital heart disease.

Dr. Boccia resides with her husband and four children in Short Hills, New Jersey.

In addition to his position at Atlantic Health System, Dr. Cohen is a cardiologist in practice with Associates in Cardiovascular Disease in Springfield, New Jersey. Before joining Atlantic Health System, he was associate director of the Coronary Care Unit at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. He has been an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Cohen is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is past president of the New Jersey Society of Interventional Cardiology and a member of the New Jersey Medical Society, Union County Medical Society, and Federation of Medical Specialists of Quebec. Dr. Cohen is the author or coauthor of more than 40 articles, abstracts, books, book chapters and monographs. His articles and abstracts are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals such as American Journal of Cardiology, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Circulation, to name a few. He has delivered more than 100 local, regional, national and international presentations and grand rounds on a wide range of topics in cardiology.

Dr. Cohen earned his BS in physiology with distinction at McGill University and his MD at the University of Sherbrooke, both in Canada. After graduating, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Sir Mortimer B. Davis-Jewish General Hospital under the auspices of McGill University Faculty of Medicine, where he was designated chief resident. He completed his fellowships in cardiology and cardiac catheterization at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the University of California Medical Center in San Diego.

Dr. Konstantinos Koulogiannis is on the attending staff of Morristown Medical Center, where he practices as a clinical and research cardiologist and serves as the associate director of the Cardiovascular Core Lab. He was born and raised on the Jersey Shore and received his bachelor's degree in biology and history from Rutgers College in New Brunswick. He attended UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and went on to complete his training in internal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, during which he received the Outstanding Resident Award. Dr. Koulogiannis then stayed on staff for another year as an attending physician in the Montefiore Department of Medicine, where he helped to restructure the medical hospitalist system. He completed his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at North Shore University Hospital/Long Island Jewish Medical Center.  

Dr. Koulogiannis has specific interests in advanced cardiac imaging, valvular/structural heart disease and preventive cardiology. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine and nuclear cardiology by the Council for Certification in Cardiovascular Imaging. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Koulogiannis is also fluent in Greek.  

At Morristown Medical Center, Dr. Koulogiannis is heavily involved with the hospital’s advanced cardiac therapies and structural heart disease programs.  He is active in many of the educational and administrative activities of the cardiology fellowship program.

Dr. Marcoff is a member of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine with a focus on advanced echocardiography. He received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and his MD from St. George’s University. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, a cardiology fellowship at Christiana Care Health System, and an advanced echocardiography fellowship at Columbia University.

Dr. Marcoff is board-certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography.

Prior to joining Atlantic Health System in 2013, Dr. Marcoff was an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Columbia University and an attending physician in the Division of Cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Jordan G. Safirstein, MD, FACC, FSCAI, RPVI

In addition to his position at Atlantic Health System, Dr. Safirstein is a cardiologist in practice with Cardiology Consultants of North Morris. His expertise includes vascular interpretation, interventional cardiology, adult transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine. He is a member of the New York Peripartum Cardiomyopathy Study Group.

Dr. Safirstein is a fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and American College of Cardiology, as well as a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, and American College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Safirstein earned his BA in biology at Colgate University and his MD at Chicago Medical School. After graduating, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. He completed fellowships in cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular intervention at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center under the auspices of New York Medical College.

Stephen L. Winters, MD, FHRS, CCDS

In addition to his positions at Atlantic Health System, Dr. Winters is associate professor of medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, as well as a lecturer in internal medicine at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Winters’s professional and research interests are devoted to cardiac rhythm disturbances, sudden cardiac death prevention, cardiac electrophysiology, electrode catheter ablation, pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and automatic external and wearable defibrillators. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine and cardiac electrophysiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Winters is a fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society and American College of Cardiology, as well as a member of the American Heart Association Clinical Council, North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology, and Health Information Technology Task Force. He is former president elect of the New Jersey Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology and former governor of the American College of Cardiology-New Jersey Chapter. Dr. Winters is the author or coauthor of articles, abstracts, books and book chapters that are primarily devoted to topics in cardiac rhythm disturbances and electrophysiology. A sought-after speaker, he has delivered more than 300 local, regional, national and international invited presentations in his field.

Dr. Winters earned his BA in biology cum laude at New York University and his MD at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After graduating, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine, where he was designated chief resident. He also completed his fellowship in cardiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital.

Dr. Katz has specialized training in the electrical management of long q-t syndrome, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, brugada syndrome, arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia and other inherited cardiac rhythm disorders.

He completed his internal medicine residency at Duke University, followed by cardiology and electrophysiology fellowships at the University of Rochester. During this time, the nationally-recognized medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha inducted him as a cardiology fellow for excellence in teaching and clinical research.

In addition to the practice of all aspects of general cardiac electrophysiology, Dr. Katz’ academic interests include the prevention of sudden cardiac death and the management of inherited cardiac arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies. He has published original manuscripts in peer review journals in the areas of atrial fibrillation, cardiac device implantation and resistant hypertension.

Dr. Katz is a New Jersey native, a graduate of Montclair High School and currently resides in Chatham, with his family.

Dr. Gallerstein is a consultative and noninvasive cardiologist with special interests in medical education, clinical cardiology, noninvasive diagnostic testing and electrocardiography. He is the author or coauthor of articles and abstracts on these and related topics, which are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree at Johns Hopkins University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Gallerstein earned his MD at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Bronx Municipal Hospital Center in New York, NY and completed his fellowship in cardiology at Washington University-Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Gallerstein joined Morristown Medical Center after working five years at Beth Israel Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical School in New York, NY. He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Matthew Martinez is the Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Director of Sports Cardiology and Co-Director of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Program.  He regularly presents on sports cardiology and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at national and international meetings and served as the American College of Cardiology’s Chair of Sports and Exercise section until 2020.

He has expertise in advanced cardiac imaging using echo, cardiac MRI and CT, and has led many educational events nationally and internationally on these topics. He has also served as the educational program chairman for the International Athletic Heart Symposium on management of athletes with cardiovascular risk.  

Dr. Martinez serves as a cardiology consultant for elite and professional athletes including acting as the league cardiologist for Major League Soccer, team cardiologist for the New York Jets, and cardiac consultant for the NFL. 

Dr. Stephen Horgan is an attending cardiologist at Morristown Medical Center where he practices multimodality cardiovascular imaging as well as general cardiology. Dr. Horgan serves as the Medical Director of the School of Cardiovascular Technology. His main research interests relate to cardiovascular imaging.

He earned his medical degree (honors) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from University College Dublin for his research on novel biomarkers and therapies for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.  Having completed a residency and cardiology fellowship in Ireland, he spent a further two years subspecializing in multimodality cardiovascular imaging at The Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. During this time, he was exposed to cutting edge imaging techniques and brings this expertise to Morristown Medical Center.

He is the father of three children and enjoys playing golf, swimming and skiing.

Dr. Calenda is a consultative and non-invasive cardiologist with a particular interest in vascular medicine. He joined Cardiology Associates of North Jersey in 2018 and has been an active contributor to the fellowship, including a monthly vascular ultrasound review session.

Following undergraduate studies at Boston College and medical school at Tufts University, Dr. Calenda went on to Mount Sinai Medical Center to complete residency and fellowship. After cardiology fellowship, he completed an additional year of fellowship in vascular medicine with a particular focus on non-invasive diagnosis, imaging, and management of a wide variety of peripheral vascular disorders.

He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, vascular medicine, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography. He is published in a number of peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on a wide range of topics in cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Anuj Mediratta is a member of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine with a focus on advanced echocardiography. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from The Ohio State University. He completed an internal medicine residency at Northwestern McGaw in Chicago and fellowships in cardiovascular disease and advanced cardiac Imaging fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Dr. Mediratta is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, echocardiography and cardiovascular computed tomography. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography.

Prior to joining Atlantic Health System in 2018, Dr. Mediratta was an assistant professor at North Shore University Hospital/Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. His primary roles at Morristown Medical Center are in the Structural Heart Program and Cardiovascular Core Lab.

Amiralli Masoumi, MD, FACC
Medical Director of Cardiac Critical Care and Medical and Interventional Director of the Cardiogenic Shock and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program

Dr. Masoumi is an interventional and an advanced heart failure cardiologist, specializing in the diagnosis and management of patients with both advanced coronary artery disease and heart failure, with specific focus on cardiogenic shock, advanced hemodynamic and mechanical circulatory support and complex interventional therapies, including complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

After completing medical school in Tehran, Iran, he emigrated to the United States and completed four years of research and clinical fellowship in nephrology, under Dr. Robert Schrier, focusing on heart-kidney interactions. He then completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Emory University. Dr. Masoumi completed additional training in cardiovascular disease at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, where he was elected as chief fellow. He obtained further training in both advanced heart failure, transplant, and mechanical circulatory support, as well as interventional cardiology at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Masoumi believes in a dedicated multidisciplinary team approach to patient care especially with advanced heart failure and complex coronary disease. He offers world-class knowledge in interventional heart failure and mechanical circulatory support. Involved in many ongoing research protocols, Dr. Masoumi’s research focuses on management and improving the survival of patients suffering from cardiogenic shock. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts, reviews, abstracts, and several book chapters.

Abhishek Singh, MD, FACC
Medical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Program

Dr. Singh is a fellowship-trained heart failure cardiologist and medical director of the Atlantic Medical Group Heart Success Program, the Advanced Heart Failure program at Morristown Medical Center. Triple-board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, Dr. Singh provides high-quality care and exceptional outcomes for patients with advanced heart failure including those requiring device implantation and/or evaluation for heart transplantation.

Driven by clinical excellence, Dr. Singh uses evidence-based medicine to co-manage advanced and complicated heart failure and pulmonary hypertension patients with referring physicians. He cares for patients with hard-to-control heart conditions by implementing electrophysiologic and hemodynamic support devices with a multidisciplinary team. He utilizes right heart catheterization with exercise coupled to a metabolic cart (invasive CPET) to help determine the various contributors for a patient’s dyspnea. He also evaluates and manages pre- and post-heart transplant patients. After receiving his medical degree from Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Singh headed west to pursue his internship and residency at University of California San Francisco. He remained there for his cardiology fellowship in the molecular medicine program (physician scientist training program). He returned to the East Coast to pursue a second fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology. He has an extensive list of published work, has lectured internationally, and has participated in research studies funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Singh maintains membership in the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Heart Association. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
