Treatment for breast cancer will often vary depending on the stage of the cancer and its location. At Atlantic Health System Cancer Care, our team of surgeons, physicians, nurses and technologists personalize breast cancer treatment plans to meet individual needs.

Non-Surgical Treatments for Breast Cancer

Non-surgical approaches to breast cancer may be applied during any stage of cancer and are often prescribed along with surgery to prevent recurrence. Our hospitals offer:

Breast Surgery

Breast cancer in stages 0 through II may be successfully treated by removing just the tumor or part of the breast – also known as breast conserving surgery, while stages III and IV may require the removal of the full breast. Surgical options at our hospitals include:

Lumpectomy –
removes the tumor and some of the surrounding tissue
Partial mastectomy –
removes the entire breast, with the exception of the nipple and areola
Total mastectomy –
removes the breast, nipple and areola; sometimes the lymph nodes under the arm and skin over the breast are also removed, which is known as a radical mastectomy
Breast reconstructive surgery –
incorporates implant procedures and tissue procedures, such as LD flap, TRAM flap and DIEP flap

After breast surgery, most patients will need to continue receiving regular mammograms and other tests to make sure the cancer does not return. Both those who have completed surgery or are preparing for an operation may benefit from one of our educational classes and breast cancer support groups >
