At Atlantic Health System Cancer Care, we understand that cancer treatment can be complicated and confusing for patients and families. Our nurse navigators – trained professionals with extensive knowledge about cancer symptoms, treatment and resources – help guarantee that breast cancer and gastrointestinal cancer patients at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center receive the best possible medical care, as well as emotional support and guidance throughout all stages of treatment. In addition, our resource navigators can provide non-medical assistance.

Nurse navigators:

  • Meet with the patient and family to review diagnosis and treatment options presented by their doctors
  • Explain medical terms and processes to the patient and caregivers throughout the course of treatment and after treatment
  • Assist with coordinating appointments and follow up care, as well as follow patients to ensure completion of the recommended treatment plan
  • Identify and refer patients to appropriate medical, social and community resources and locate services that can help the patient and caregivers deal with the stress of a cancer diagnosis

Prostate Navigate Program

Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Overlook Medical also provides prostate cancer patients with a nurse navigator as part of our Prostate Navigate Program. We are the only hospital in the region to offer this unique, patient-centered service.
