PrerequisitesSuccessful completion of all 3rd year clerkships
DescriptionThe cardiology rotation exposes 4th year medical students to a broad variety of cardiac disorders, including the observation of common and more technologically advanced cardiac procedures. Students will work with fellows and attending physicians in hospital and outpatient care settings. 
Learning Experience

Students will: 

  • Participate in weekly rotations on these services: consultation service, non-invasive lab, cardiac cath lab, and coronary care unit
  • Shadow cardiology fellows on each of the services listed above
  • Attend morning conference, Monday–Thursday. These are attending physician led sessions, primary case-based discussions
  • Participate in daily noon conference didactic curriculum
  • Attend weekly cardiology fellows clinic
Goals & Objectives
  • To enhance skills in cardiology history taking
  • To enhance skills in cardiology physical exams  
  • To enhance skills in analyzing cardiology clinical data, creating a differential diagnosis and formulating a treatment plan
Feedback & EvaluationThe attending preceptor and cardiology fellow will provide consistent written evaluations and will offer feedback throughout the rotation. A final, written evaluation will be completed at the end of the rotation.
