Overlook Family Medicine believes that experiencing other cultures, their health care beliefs, and barriers to care enhances our understanding of our own place and role in health care delivery in the US. We encourage participation in global health development activities, and offer linkages to several global health organizations including Shoulder-to-Shoulder, a non-profit well-established global health organization working primarily in Honduras, and Hands up for Haiti.
Additionally residents, in consultation with the program director, may also choose to work with other global health organizations in a country of their choice. Family medicine residents can choose a one to four-week elective. All global health experiences are funded by the Benjamin H. Josephson, MD Fund, a foundation established to honor a founder of the residency, through the Department of Family Medicine.
